Dumpsters by Colors

Even though you might not be aware of the specifications that dumpsters must have, you probably have noticed that there are different colors of them. Some might be green, blue, or black and others might be red, yellow, or purple. By having different colors, it becomes easier to separate the waste contained in any given receptacle.

There is so much waste produced in the United States that it is enough to make a line of trucks carrying it all the way to the moon. Another great visualization:there is enough aluminum thrown away in landfills to double the American commercial fleet of planes.

Why Dumpsters are Color Coded

Years ago, it didn’t matter if dumpsters were one color or the other because it all went to the same place. Many landfills contained any kind of garbage that you can imagine. This started to be a problem when people realized that the environment was being negatively affected and that irresponsible waste management techniques were literally killing the planet. We concluded that recycling was a great solution and started to separate what could be recycled and what could not. That program is why there are green and blue dumpsters where only recyclable materials should be disposed of.Today, there are better ways of handling our waste and dumpsters are color-coded so everyone can identify recycling containers. There are materials that can be reprocessed because of that fact those materials ought to be reused as regularly as they can.

What the Coding Means

There are thousands of private companies across the country that offer dumpster rental services. There are also manufacturers that make dumpsters and sell them to private contractors or to  city sanitation departments. While the color code can vary from one city to another, they all serve the same purpose and people generally can figure out if there’s a difference simply by reading the clearly labeled dumpster signs on the side of any given dumpster regarding what materials are acceptable. Generally, recyclable materials are disposed of in blue or green dumpsters, biohazard materials are disposed in red dumpsters, mass food waste is disposed in yellow dumpsters, general waste is disposed in black dumpstersand construction waste like bricks, stones or concrete is disposed in purple dumpsters.

The Importance of Proper Disposal

The main reason of properly disposing waste that we produce is to reduce the amount of waste in the world and at the same type protecting our ecology and environment. If there was nonstop generation of waste without a proper recycling system, we would quickly get to a point where there would be no more room to place our garbage. Perhaps the oceans and deserts would wind up filled up with all types of waste, eventually leading to the complete pollution of the planet. It is important that people become aware of the repercussions of irresponsible disposal of waste through research. It is also important to teach others how to recycle materials and to use organic waste for composting.
